Key Upskill and Inspire Initiatives
Sustainability training is delivered in a range of environments including Corporate Induction, team away days, learning lunches and through specialist courses. We also run a series of employee engagement activities to inspire and reward our employees.
Role Specific Training: As well as including sustainability in our corporate induction training, we also provide role specific training, including IEMA based training for our centre operational teams.
Leadership in Sustainability: As part of our commitment to upskill and inspire our people in sustainability, our senior management team are heading to University. Ten of our current senior leaders have already completed training at Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership.
This programme gives our senior managers exposure to key, up to date sustainability data and the latest thinking in a business focused, collaborative environment. It enables them to reconcile key business challenges with the opportunities presented by sustainability focused projects. It is the innovative thinking inspired by this programme that has led to the development of initiatives such as the EcoPod with Costa and the carbon neutral retail park.

Inspiring our Employees to Do More: Hammerson is committed to supporting employees in
serving their local community through volunteering, and in taking action to
become more sustainable.
Hammerson provides three days of paid volunteering
to all employees. We aim to deliver innovative volunteering programmes
that will positively benefit local communities whilst providing benefits to
both employees and the business.
One
volunteering day is given to our annual Community Day. Started in 2008, the day
provides our teams with an opportunity to do something completely different.
It is extremely popular and supports incredibly worthwhile projects each
year.

Inspiring and Rewarding Action:
We teamed up with Coriander Cows to utilise The
Butterfly Bank engagement
platform. The platform enables us to promote, track and reward both
volunteering opportunities and sustainable behaviours.
We are able to track and report on all activities
taken which has the additional benefit to Hammerson of being able to measure
success accurately. This insight also means we are able to recognise and reward
staff for their involvement and give feedback to our charity partners and
employees about cumulative impact and favoured opportunities.engagement platform. The platform enables us to promote,
track and reward both volunteering opportunities and sustainable
behaviours.
In 2018, 63,748 individual sustainable actions and
3,292 hours of volunteering were recorded by 368 Hammerson employees.
