In 2016, Tanya Gabrielle a resident of Croydon who is deaf, was successful in applying for a £2,000 grant award from the Croydon Partnership to deliver ‘H.E.A.R. The Runway’.

Designed and created by Tanya, H.E.A.R. The Runway is a fashion show that informs, entertains and provides a networking event for the deaf community. After several months of planning, H.E.A.R. The Runway took place at the TMRW community space in Croydon on the 31st May.

With guidance and support from several local and national organisations, companies and charities, Tanya delivered a truly remarkable event that captured the imagination of the audience. Several young fashion designers who were either deaf or had a hearing impairment showcased their clothing collections using models, many of whom had similar disabilities. The National Deaf Children’s Society who attended praised the evening as unique example of how someone’s disability does not necessarily affect their ability to take part in such events.

The event would not have taken place without the Croydon Partnership’s grant award, with all funding used towards costs associated with the evening.

A very emotional Tanya said “I can’t thank the Croydon Partnership enough for their support. Tonight has been amazing for all those who have either participated or attended”.
